Baale lands in Police net over dubious land deal
The Baale of Ferowa village in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, Chief Muyideen Folorunso, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command over a dubious land deal worth N15.5m.
His arrest followed a petition written by the management of Jaxmat Homes and Properties that the company approached the Baale for the purchase of about 23 acres of land within his domain for a negotiated sum of N15.5m.
The firm reportedly paid the amount to the suspect after he showed the land to its officials.
Some months after the payment was made, the Baale was alleged to have sold 17 acres out of the land to another set of people.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that on the strength of the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, directed the officer in charge of the Public Complaints Bureau to look into the case and bring the suspect to book.
“The Baale was subsequently arrested, and on interrogation, he admitted to collecting the said amount of money from the complainant after showing the officials the land. He stated further that because he needed some money for his coronation, he was tempted to sell parts of the already sold land,” Oyeyemi stated.
