Kanye West feared wife would leave him after saying ‘slavery was a choice’

Kanye West, an American rapper and record producer, feared his marriage may have been affected after insinuating that 400 years of slavery in America was a choice.

The ‘Yikes’ singer, in May, sparked outrage among millions around the world when he called slavery “a choice” during an impromptu visit to TMZ.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, West opened up about the aftermath of his comments, explaining that he was worried for his marriage to reality star Kim Kardashian.

“There was a moment where I felt like after TMZ, maybe a week after that, I felt like the energy levels were low, and I called different family members and was asking, you know, ‘Was Kim thinking about leaving me after TMZ?’ So that was a real conversation,” he said.

On ‘Wouldn’t Leave’, a song on his new album ‘Ye’, West rapped about Kim’s reaction.

West rapped on the song: “My wife callin’, screamin’, say, ‘We bout to lose it all!’

“Had to calm her down cause she couldn’t breathe. Told her she could leave me now, but she wouldn’t leave . . .”

West and Kardashian have been married for four years and they have three children – North, 5, Saint, 2 and 5-month-old Chicago.
