Falconets World Cup Qualifier Boosted With Victory At South Africa
Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team Falconets defeated South Africa’s Basetsana girls 2-0 in Polokwane on Saturday.The Falconets chance of qualifying for France 2018 U-20 Women’s World Cup, slated for later this year was boosted with a 2-0 victory in the first leg of their final qualifiers.
Chris Danjuma’s side grabbed a well-deserved lead through impressive striker Rasheedat Ajibade on the half-hour mark, and before Anam Imo sealed a convincing win, tapping in the second goal six minutes later.
The Basetsana, backed by their home crowd, tried to find a way back into the game in the second period, but the Nigerians held on. Goalkeeper Cynthia Nnadozie was well-protected by Sunday Opeyemi, Christy Ucheibe, Mary Ologbosere and Kemi Famuditi.
Glory Ogbonna, Bashirat Amoo, Grace Igboamalu, Imo, Ajibade and Folashade Ijamilusi all impressed at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The return game is scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on January 27.
The 9th U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled for France from August 7 to 26.
