Russia 2018: Germany Upset By South Korea, Defending Champions Out
After waiting for miracles as it happens in the case of Argentina against Nigeria, Germany the defending Champions have been edged out of the world cup in Russia.
The German machine performances have been questioned by many pundits. Russia 2018 has become a nightmare for Die Mannschaft, with Korea scoring into an empty net adding insult to injury for the holders, who are the third world champions in a row to go out after the group stage. When all is over, the lack of punch in front of goal will certainly be the main talking point in the German camp. The holders produced just two goals and never really found their stride here.
Curse of the champions
Only six times in history have the champions crashed out in the first round, and four of those have happened since the turn of the millennium. Only Brazil, returning champions in 2002, made it past the group stage. France, Italy, Spain and now Germany – four European giants of the game – have fallen at the first hurdle of their defence.
