Lionel Messi Wins Double At 2017/18 Marca Awards

FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has been named the LaLiga Player of the Year for the 2017/18 season while adding another top-scorer award to his illustrious list of honours.

Messi, 31, lifted the domestic double last season and finished as top-scorer of the Spanish top-flight with 34 goals in 36 league outings and has subsequently been honoured for his achievements.

The Blaugrana captain lifted the best player of the 2017-18 campaign awarded by Spanish publication Marca, at a prestigious ceremony in Barcelona on Monday.

This after scoring a brace on his recent return to action in the 4-3 defeat to Real Betis after an injury layoff due to a fractured arm.

Upon receiving the award, the five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or lauded the strength of the current division, with only four points separating them at the summit, to Real in sixth place.

“It’s good that the league is more competitive than ever,” Messi said after picking up the Alfredo Di Stefano Trophy for the sixth time in his career.

“There are no easy games. Anyone can beat anyone and that’s good for the spectators. I hope it stays like this.”
